📖 Matthew 13:54-58 (ESV)
“And coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, ‘Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? … And they took offense at him.’ But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.’ And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.”
The allure of being the “Hometown Hero” can be incredibly tempting.
We hustle in our community, striving to uplift the very people we grew up with, thinking they’ll get it. But far too often, they don’t. Just like Jesus in Matthew 13, they question our calling, minimize our gifts, and let their unbelief stunt what God could do through us.
Man of God, that vision you carry… That dream that keeps tugging at your spirit…God gave it to YOU!
Not your boys from back in the day!
Not your cousins!
Not your coworkers!
YOU!!!!
That bakery that uses local goods to serve the neighborhood — that’s purpose!
That gym that connects fathers with family-friendly workouts — that’s kingdom innovation!
Stop letting the world convince you to play it safe!
You might be one swing away from your home run!
But you’ll never know if you don’t step into the batter’s box and take the swing!!
You don’t need your hometown’s applause. You serve a party of ONE!
Outside opinions? Irrelevant!
Trying to “figure out what everyone thinks”? That’s a distraction from what really matters — YOUR ACTIONS!!
God gave YOU the assignment. So follow His lead. Walk boldly. Stay obedient.
And know this: The people you’re called to serve will find you!
You don’t need permission to walk in purpose!
You don’t need applause to operate in anointing!
You don’t need validation to move in vision!
The favor of God is more powerful than the approval of man!
So stop waiting for a round of applause that was never meant for you — and go do what God told you to do!
